Big News: Natural History Display Under Construction
| After a summer of research and writing in New Mexico, I am back at Furman, currently teaching General Ecology and chairing the seminar committee (Bio 075.) In addition to teaching, I will be spending considerable time organizing the new vertebrate collections room, which will include a truly extraordinary natural history display of desert bighorn sheep and puma skeletons in a live action pose. The ram skeleton, currently under construction is seen at the left. Local artist and naturalist Brian Johnson of Traveler's Rest is using his considerable talent to create a visually stunning and educational piece. The two skeletons were obtained during my research on cougar (puma or mountain lion)in southcentral New Mexico. Graduate student Megan Pitman and I maintain a public access blog for real-time research results, including photos from remote cameras and maps of collared cougar locations. |
