Rehearsal Etiquette

1. Be on time. A show will open to the public at a specific time and the cast and crew must be mentally and physically prepared to perform. Rehearse your arrival as carefully as your performance

2. Check the call board daily.Not only is this board an important way of communicating with people working on a show, but it also has current opportunities for involvement in other theatres.

3.No smoking in the theatre building.

4.ONLY handle props if you use them on stage. Sit on the set furniture ONLY during rehearsals and performances.

5.Wear or handle clothing and objects in the dressing rooms ONLY if it is yours.

6. Be prepared for rehearsals by:

  • Arriving at least fifteen minutes early
  • Checking your props,
  • Walking the acting space to become familiar with new set additions
  • Warming up physically and vocally
  • Reviewingthe script.

7. . All people attending rehearsals should bring pencil and paper for notes.

 

Performance Etiquette

1. Sign in on the Sign In Sheeton the Callboard when you first arrive. Having someone else sign in foryou is not permissible. Do not leave the building after signing in without permission of the Stage Manager

2.Cast and Crew must always enter and leave by the crew entrance door located on the left side of The Playhouse next to the loading dock or the Stage Left side door. It is unprofessional to use the front lobby door.

3.Cast and Crew must not enter the Box Office or Lobby before or during a production. All messages must be given to the Stage Manager to communicate with the House Manager.

4.Cast and Crew should reply "Thank you" when the Stage Manager orAssistant Stage Manager gives calls before the show and during intermission. This reply is not only a courtesy to the Stage Managers, but also lets them know that their announcement was heard.

5.No guests backstage before or during a performance.Guests are not allowed in the dressing rooms at any time.

6.All crew members operating backstage wear black clothing for low visibility and black shoes with soft soles for silent running.Hair should be controlled and out of the face.

7.Crew members in the lighting booth must make every effort not to make eye contact with the audience and certainly not to communicate with them.Part of the magic of the theatre is the idea that a show just happens without the audience being aware of the people working hard to make it happen.

8.Communication between the Stage Manager, Lighting Booth Crew, and the Front of House staff is expected to be professional in nature. Casual conversations on the headsets is unprofessional.

9.The entire cast and crew participates in strike following the last performance in the run of a show. No one may leave until the complete strike is finished.

10.To prevent noises from carrying through to the audience do not use the soft-drink machine once the house is open during a performance

11. Avoid bringing valuables to the theatre

12.Maintain silence backstage.

13. Do not leave the building with costume or makeup on. Do not greet the public backstage in costume or makeup unless picture call follows the performance.

14. The cast and crew must complete their pre-show checks of lights, sound, and props at least thirty minutes before show time and inform the Stage Manager that the checks are complete.

15. Avoid touching the set and black curtains when moving on or off stage.
