Links to Photos of Adult Moths
(a) If a link is provided for a species, it goes to some website. The vast majority will not be leading to photos that I control. I am grateful for all of the photographers who have placed their work on various websites. Please do not copy and use these photos without permission of their creators.
(b) Because of the fact described above, it is possible that a photo will appear that does not accurately portray the advertised species--I rely upon the various creators of websites for accurate identification.
(c) For quite a few species a single photo is not very useful since there is much variation within a species. Nevertheless, I consider one photo to be better than none at all. Just keep in mind the potential for variation. If you want to see additional photos for many of the species, go to another of my websites, Web Images of North American Moths. Some species can be positively identified only by microscopic examination of such feathres as antennae, legs, and genitalia. For those species, a photo will likely narrow down identification only to genus.
(d) It is possible that a particular link will have gone dead (the website is defunct or moved to a new address). My apologies; I will try to monitor for this on a regular basis.
(e) There are still quite a few species for which NO web-based photos are available. If you can contribute such a photo, please contact me.
