BOULWARE NAMED HEAD COACH AT PRESBYTERIAN COLLEGE

GREENVILLE, SC -- Furman men's soccer assistant Bret Boulware was recently named head soccer coach at his alma-mater, Presbyterian College in Clinton, S.C.

Boulware came to Furman in 1995 with Doug Allison and helped lead Furman to five of its most successful seasons in the school's history. Under the tutelage of Allison and Boulware, the Paladins won four Southern Conference regular season titles, three Southern Conference tournament titles, and were consistently ranked in the nation's top 25. Over the last five seasons, Furman has tallied the fifth-best record in Division I, a 78-21-7 mark.

Furman's 1999 squad was the most successful soccer team in school history and one of the most successful athletic teams in Furman history. Furman also finished the season in the nation's top twenty in scoring (14th), team defense (13th), and winning percentage (2nd).

Boulware will assume the position on July 1, replacing Ralph Polson who has served as head coach for the last 17 seasons. Polson leaves PC to become associate head coach at the College of Charleston.

"I am excited for Bret," said Furman head coach Doug Allison. "It is always an honor to get the opportunity to coach at your alma-mater and I know Bret will do a great at PC. He has been an invaluable, consistent component of our program since I came to Furman and we will miss him."

"We are pleased to have a PC alum and an outstanding individual like Brett Boulware to lead our men's soccer program," Morris said. "Brett will be a valuable addition to the PC family."

Boulware is no stranger to the Blue Hose soccer program, having played from 1988-91 where he was a two-time All-America. A goalkeeper while playing at PC, he still owns the program's single-season and career records for fewest goals allowed by a goalkeeper and was a member of the 1988 squad which set the program's record for consecutive wins without a loss (11). Boulware served as team captain in 1991, earned team MVP honors that same year, and was selected to participate in the Umbro Senior Bowl All-Star Game.

"I am very excited to be able to return to my alma mater as the head coach of the men's soccer program," said Boulware. "I look forward to continuing the tradition that the soccer program has enjoyed over the years, and I am grateful for the opportunity."

After finishing his career at PC, Boulware moved to the sidelines where he served as assistant coach of the Blue Hose men's soccer program for three seasons. During that time, PC won two South Atlantic Conference regular-season titles and posted a 38-16-6 overall mark.
