FURMAN'S BROWNLEE NOTCHES GTE ACADEMIC ALL DISTRICT AWARD
GREENVILLE, SC -- Furman sophomore Kaye Brownlee added another honor to her already impressive resume Thursday as she was named to the 2000 GTE Academic All-District III Women's University Fall/Winter At-Large Team. One of the most selective GTE Academic teams, the At-Large Team consists of the top student-athletes from District III (Southeast) in swimming, cross country, soccer, field hockey, as well as other fall or winter sports (other that basketball and volleyball).
A sophomore from Kennesaw, Ga., Brownlee became the first women's soccer player in school history to earn All America honors ,as she was a first team selection by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) last season. Brownlee has a 3.65 grade point average and is undecided on her major.
Brownlee led Furman as a sophomore with 13 goals and 17 assists last season. She set Furman single season records for goals and points. Brownlee finished the season fourth in the nation in assists after placing second during her freshman season.
Furman finished the season 20-3, setting school and Southern Conference records for overall wins. The Lady Paladins also set records for goals, assists, points, conference wins, wins at home, and wins on the road. The Lady Paladins, the Southern Conference regular season and tournament champions, earned their first NCAA Tournament bid in history.
