SEVEN LADY PALADINS NAMED ALL-SOUTHERN CONFERENCE

GREENVILLE, SC -- A Furman record seven womenıs soccer players were named to the All-Southern Conference team on Wednesday.

Four members of the Southern Conference champion Lady Paladins were selected to the first team. 1998 Freshman-of-the year Kaye Brownlee made her second first team appearance. Brownlee is currently second in the nation in assists per match with 17 assists in 20 matches this season. She broke Furmanıs single season points record with 37 points on 10 goals and 17 assists.

Sophomore defender Lauren Killey also makes her second straight first team appearance. Killey is joined on the first team by fellow marking back Bridgett Giles. Giles and Killey led a Furman defense that allowed only 0.72 goals a match.

Also making first team All-Southern Conference was forward Melissa Turner. Turner broke Furmanıs single season goals record with 13 goals and scored three overtime game-winning goals this season.

Three Lady Paladins were selected as second team All-Southern Conference. Goalkeeper Melissa Barnes leads the conference with a 0.62 goals against average and is in the top 15 in the nation in that category. Midfielders Sarah Tollick and Katie Carson round out the Furman contingent. Tollick, a junior, makes her first All-SoCon appearance as she is third on the team in scoring with seven goals and 11 assists. Carson, a freshman, also has 11 assists for the Furman as a central midfielder.

Furman head coach Brian Lee is named Southern Conference coach-of-the-year for the second straight year and the third time in five seasons.

Georgia Southern, the sixth seed in the conference tournament, earned both player-of-the-year and freshman-of-the-year honors. Senior Tara Chaisson, the leading scorer in Southern Conference history, was named player-of-the-year as she leads the conference in scoring this season. Amanda Bernard was named Southern Conference Freshman-of-the-Year despite the fact that six other freshman made all-conference.
