FURMAN BLOWS PAST TROY STATE AT UMBRO KICKOFF CLASSIC

GREENVILLE, South Carolina -- The Furman women's soccer team scored seven first half goals en route to an 8-0 defeat of Troy State in the first round of the Umbro Kickoff Classic.

Seven different players scored for the Lady Paladins in the first half, as Furman improved to 5-1 on the season. Sarah Tollick put the Lady Paladins on the board first with a goal just 3:17 into the match off assists from Melissa Sutton and Kathy Gaertner. Sutton then scored a goal of her own five minutes later off a Lauren Killey, Tara Brexel double assist. Kathy Gaertner then scored the match's nicest goal as she curved a corner kick into the far side of the net at the 17:06 mark. Katie Carson and Kaye Brownlee added goals 17 seconds apart at the 21:18 and 21:35 marks. Redshirt freshman Lindsey Facciolo scored her first goal of the season at the 33:25 mark, while Michelle Muro scored her first-ever collegiate goal off assists from her sister, Natalie Muro, and Nicole Malseed.

Early in the second half, freshman Mary Crean connected on the Lady Paladins' eighth goal of the night off assists from Christy Gullikson and Lindsey Facciolo.

Eight differenct players scored goals for the Lady Paladins, while 14 either had a goal or an assist on the night.

Furman improves to 5-1 on the season, while Troy State falls to 1-4.
