FURMAN'S TURNER EARNS SECOND SOCON PLAYER-OF-THE-WEEK AWARD

GREENVILLE, SC -- Furman's Melissa Turner was named Southern Conference women's soccer player-of-the-week for the second time this season on Tuesday.

Turner, a sophomore from Marietta, Ga., scored five goals in two Furman wins last week. She scored twice in Furman's 3-2 come-from-behind overtime victory over Wofford, inlcuding the overtime game-winner. In Furman's 8-0 thumping of Chattanooga, Turner notched her first career hat trick.

Turner was also named Southern Confernece player-of-the-week on September 7 after being named MVP of the Jacksonvile Legends Tournament in which she also scored an overtime game-winner to defeat Jacksonville.

As Furman's leading goal scorer, despite playing primarily a defensive midfielder position, Turner has produced an exceptional season with nine goals and four assists. After a solid freshman season, in which she earned second team All-Southern Conference honors, Turner has asserted herself as one of the conference's top offensive and defensive playmakers this season.

The Lady Paladins, having their best season in school history, are 11-2 and ranked 8th in the Southeast Region by the NSCAA and Soccer Buzz.

Turner's honor marks the third Southern Conference player-of-week citation for the Lady Paladins in the first six weeks of the season. In addition to Turner's two accolades, Furman points leader, midfielder Kaye Brownlee, received the honor on September 28.
