FURMAN'S TURGEON AND TURNER NAMED TO NSCAA ALL-SOUTHEAST TEAM

GREENVILLE, SC -- Furman women's soccer standouts Emily Turgeon and Melissa Turner were honored Wednesday as members of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-Southeast Region second team.

Turgeon, a freshman forward from Raleigh, N.C., led Division I with 63 points on 23 goals and 17 assists. She became the first player in Southern Conference women's soccer history to be honored as freshman-of-the-year and player-of-the-year in the same season. She is also a finalist for the Soccer Buzz national freshman-of-the-year award.

Joining Turgeon on the second team was junior forward Melissa Turner. Turner is making her second straight NSCAA second team appearance. Turner finished second on the team and the conference in scoring as she tallied 18 goals and 13 assists for 49 points. Turner's 49 points placed her tenth in the nation in total points.

Both Turner and Turgeon broke the old single season records for goals and points, with Turgeon carrying the records into next season. Turner ranks second at Furman in both goals and points as she has tallied 100 career points on 36 goals and 28 assists.

Turner and Turgeon were pivotal members of the nationally ranked Lady Paladins, who finished the season 20-3. Furman achieved a national ranking of 13th in two different polls this season and won the Southern Conference regular season with a perfect 9-0 league mark for the second straight year. Furman also advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the second straight season.
