FURMAN UNIVERSITY ANNOUNCES 2000 WOMEN'S SOCCER CAPTAINS
GREENVILLE, SC -- Head women's soccer coach Brian Lee announced the team's 2000 captains in a team meeting this week. For the first time in the program's history, the Lady Paladins will have four captains, including returning captain Sarah Tollick. Joining Tollick as team captains are rising seniors Bridgett Giles and Nicole Malseed, and rising junior Kaye Brownlee.
The captains were selected by a team vote and the balloting was too close to limit it to the traditional two or three captains, according to head coach Brian Lee.
Tollick joins Liz Bielefeld ('98) as the only back-to-back captain in the program's history. Last season, Tollick was instrumental in helping to guide the Lady Paladins to their best performance in school history as she was selected second team All-Southern Conference. Tollick registered seven goals and 11 assists during the year. She ranks third in career assists and fifth in career points for the Lady Paladins.
Bridgett Giles, a starting defender, earned first team All-Southern Conference honors a year ago. She helped anchor one side of Furman's formidable defense that allowed only 0.74 goals a game during the season.
Nicole Malseed, one of the most versatile players on the team, was a key performer off the bench last season, tallying five goals and five assists.
Kaye Brownlee is a consensus All-American as she earned All-American honors by three different groups, including first team honors by the NSCAA. She is Furman's first-ever women's soccer All American. Brownlee is an inspirational team leader who is already Furman's all-time leader in assists and ranks second in points and third in goals on Furman's all-time charts.
"I believe this group has the leadership skills and the respect of their teammates to lead the team next season," said Furman head coach Brian Lee. "Sarah Tollick proved to be an excellent captain a year ago and I know the other three will do a superb job as well."
