GREENVILLE, SC -- The Furman women's soccer team blanked Elon 5-0 Friday afternoon in the Umbro Challenge at Eugene Stone Soccer Stadium.
Sophomore Katie Carson scored twice to lead the Paladins to their fourth straight blowout win. Carson scored her first goal of the season 28:52 into the match after Danielle Petro slid a ball to her at the top of the box. Petro then connected on her team leading eighth goal of the season four minutes later as she scored after receiving an Erin Sims throw-in. With seven seconds remaining in the half, Lindsey Facciolo extended Furmanšs lead to 3-0 as she scored off a Kaye Brownlee assist.
The Lady Paladins scored two early second half goals to extend the lead to 5-0. Carson netted her second goal of the day at the 53:24 mark as she collected a cleared ball from 25 yards out and drilled the ball past Elon keeper Brooke Weeks. Nicole Malseed finished off the scoring for Furman with a goal at the 64:30 mark off assists from Carson and Natalie Muro.
"I was pleased to see several different players score today," said Furman head coach Brian Lee."We are showing that we have a very balanced attack this season."
Furman improves to 7-0 on the season, while Elon falls to 0-8. Furman is ranked sixth in the Southeast Region and have scored 35 goals in its first seven matches, an average of 5.0 goals per match. The Lady Paladins have not trailed all season.
