FURMAN'S TURGEON EXTENDS NATIONAL SCORING LEAD

GREENVILLE, SC -- Furman women's soccer freshman Emily Turgeon extended her national scoring lead as she leads the nation in total points with 55 for the fourth straight week.

Turgeon, a freshman from Raleigh, N.C., has notched 55 points on 19 goals and 17 assists this season. She also leads the nation in points per match with an average of 3.06 points per match. Last week, Turgeon led Furman to a 6-0 win over Wofford as she scored three goals and recorded two assists in the match.

Turgeon¹s 55 points is a Furman single season record, as is her 19 goals. She is only two assists away from tying the Furman single season assist record.

"I think it is incredible from a national standpoint that a freshman would have 55 points at this stage in the season," said Furman head coach Brian Lee. "She is an exciting player to watch and when you combine her with Melissa (Turner, 18 goals) and Danielle (Petro, 14 goals) it creates one formidable attack."

Joining Turgeon among the national scoring leaders is teammate Melissa Turner. Turner isthird in the nation in total points with 45 and seventh in points per match with a 2.50 average. Turner has scored 18 goals this season and recorded nine assists. The Lady Paladins are third in the nation in scoring with an average of 4.11 goals per match and have already set the Furman single season scoring mark with 78 goals.

Furman is 17-1 on the season and ranked 13th in the nation by the American Soccer Writers and by Soccer Buzz. The Lady Paladins host South Carolina on Wednesday in their regular season finale before facing Appalachian State in the first round of the Southern Conference Tournament on Thursday, November 2 in Charleston, S.C. 2000
