FURMAN PLACES FOUR ON SOCCER BUZZ REGIONAL TEAMS

GREENVILLE, SC -- Four members of the Furman women's soccer team were selected to one of Soccer Buzz' all-region teams earlier this week. Freshman forward Emily Turgeon and junior midfielder Kaye Brownlee earned second team All-Southeast Region honors, while junior forward Melissa Turner was a third team all region choice. In addition, Turgeon and fellow freshman Danielle Petro were selected to the Soccer Buzz All-Southeast All-freshman team.

Turgeon, a freshman from Raleigh, N.C., finished the nation as the leading scorer in Division I as she recorded 63 points on 23 goals and 17 assists. Earlier this year, she became the first player in Southern Conference women's soccer history to be named SoCon freshman-of-the-year and player-of-the-year in the same season. She was a College Soccer Online third team All American, making her the second player in Furman history to earn All America honors. She was also an NSCAA All-Southeast Region second team choice and a finalists for the Soccer Buzz national freshman-of-the-year award.The freshman was also featured in the November 13 issue of Sports Illustrated in the "Faces In The Crowd" section.

Kaye Brownlee is a junior midfielder from Kennesaw, Ga. This Soccer Buzz all-region pick is Brownlee's first of the 2000 season, though she is the most decorated player in Furman women's soccer history. Brownlee tallied five goals and 11 assists on the year and now has recorded 47 assists over her three year career, which places Brownlee in the top 25 in NCAA history. She is on pace to finish among the top ten all-time in assists.

Melissa Turner, a junior from Marietta, Ga., joined Turgeon in the nation's top ten in scoring as she finished tenth in the nation with 49 points on 18 goals and 13 assists. She was also a second team NSCAA All-Southeast Region pick this year and finished second in the conference in scoring.

Danielle Petro, a freshman from Lilburn, Ga., rounded out one of the most prolific trios in NCAA history as she scored 15 goals and recorded eight assists on the year as one of Furman's three starting forwards. Petro was a second team all-conference pick and notched a hat trick in her first ever collegiate match. The Furman trio of Turgeon, Turner, and Petro combined for 56 goals and 38 assists on the year.

Furman concluded the season with its second straight 20-3 overall record and 9-0 league mark. The Lady Paladins advanced to the first round of the NCAA Tournament before falling to Duke.
