GREENVILLE, SC -- Furman University will be the host for the 2001 Southern Conference women's soccer tournament, it was determined recently.
Furman was awarded the bid for the 2001 tournament on a contingency basis in the spring of 2000 assuming the SoCon womenıs soccer tournament was not held on the same weekend as the SoCon menıs soccer tournament, which it is not.
"Eugene Stone Soccer Stadium is one of the best soccer facilities in the Southeast," said Furman head coach Brian Lee. "I am excited that the tournament will be here next season. It will be good for our fans and for our team."
Furman won the Southern Conference women's soccer tournament in 1999 and advanced to the finals in 1998 and 2000. The Lady Paladins are coming off two straight 20-3 campaigns in which they earned trips to the NCAA Tournament. Furman reached a national ranking of 13th last season.
The 2001 Southern Conference women's soccer tournament will be held on November 9-11.
