GREENVILLE, SC -- Though she has already completed her freshman season as a college soccer player, Furman womeną'occer standout Emily Turgeon was named a member of the 2000 NSCAA/adidas High School All American Team this week.
The NSCAA names its All-America teams each December and players who competed in the preceding fall or spring are eligible for the award. Thus, Turgeon and a number of college freshman, whose high school season was in the spring were selected as All Americans for their senior year performances.
Turgeon played high school soccer at Cardinal Gibbons High School in Raleigh, N.C. While a member of the Crusaders, Turgeon scored 94 goals and recorded 23 assists over her four year career.
Turgeon continued her scoring frenzy as a Paladin this fall as her 63 points on 23 goals and 17 assists led Division I in total points. She is a finalist for the Soccer Buzz National Freshman-of-the-Year award.
Turgeon broke Furman single season records for goals and points. Furman produced its second consecutive 20-3 season as the Lady Paladins were ranked as high as 13th in the nation by two different polls. Furman won the Southern Conference regular season title and advanced to its second straight NCAA Tournament.
