GREENVILLE, SC -- Furman freshman forward Emily Turgeon was named Southern Conference player-of-the-week on Monday.
A freshman from Raleigh, N.C., Turgeon recorded two goals and two assists in two key Southern Conference wins over College of Charleston and Georgia Southern. She assisted Melissa Turner on the game-winner against College of Charleston and played a part in all three goals vs. Georgia Southern. After assisting Turner on Furmanšs first goal against the Eagles, Turgeon scored to put Furman ahead 2-1 and eventually 3-2.
"I am thrilled to finally see Emily receive some of the recognition she deserves," said Furman head coach Brian Lee. "Her ability to not only score goals, but create goals with assists has been a huge asset to our team this season."
Turgeon has 14 goals and 15 assists on the year to lead the Southern Conference with 43 points. She entered last week as the nationšs leader in total points. Turgeonšs 43 points through 15 contests ties the Furman single season points record set a year ago by first team All American Kaye Brownlee. Turgeon has recorded a goal or an assist in 13 of her 15 matches this season.
Furman is currently 14-1 on the season and ranked 17th in the nation in both the American Soccer Writers and the Soccer Buzz national polls. The Lady Paladins are 25-2 in their last 27 matches and have won 18 straight Southern Conference showdowns.
Furman will travel to face Davidson on Saturday at 1 p.m. in a rematch of the 1999 Southern Conference championship match.
