National Championships Weekend

Furman is hosting the 2001 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships on Monday, November 19. The best female and male collegiate cross country teams, along with the 40 top individual runners in the country, will be competing for the NCAA Division I National Title. Make plans now to watch these talented runners on Monday morning.

You are invited to participate in a special event at Furman University on Saturday, Novmeber 17. We are excited to be able to host the final event of the 2001 Corporate Shield Series on the same course as the National Championships. Running a 5K on the beautiful Furman Golf Course will indeed be a special opportunity.

All registered runners will receive a t-shirt commemorating the National Championships Weekend Corporate Race. Awards will be given in the same categories as all Corporate Shield Races. Ceramic mugs crafted by Bob Chance, award-winning artist, will be presented to individual and team winners.

Because the collegiate runners will be practicing on course soon after the Corporate Shield Race is finished, computerized race results will be utlized to enable the awards to be presented as soon as the last runner crosses the finish line. Pre-registration of all runners will be required to ensure accuracy in the computer entry of all competitors.

Since race participation will be open to non-Corporate Shield runners, we encourage all Corporate Shield Team Captains to submit entries early. Race entries will be limited to 400, so that the race course will not be damaged from overuse for Monday's Championships. All entries must be received (no mailed) by Thursday, November 15, at 12:00 noon in the Health and Exercise Science department. In case of inclement weather, the race will be held on campus so as to avoid damaging the race course.

Running on the national championship course, receiving a commemorative t-shirt for only a $5 entry fee, and having a chance to win a hand-crafted mug make this race a special one. We invite you to be a part of National Championships Weekend.
