Mt. Tabor High School Wins Varsity Girls Title

    GREENVILLE, S.C.-- Winston Salem, N.C.'s Mt. Tabor High School won the Furman Invitational Varsity Girls title this morning, defeating second-place Brookwood by 24 points. Mt. Tabor had two girls finish in the top ten on the way to an overall score of 146. Brookwood, which swept the junior varsity competition earlier in the morning, came in second with a 170. After Brookwood came Lakeside (Ga.), Watauga (N.C.), and Mountain Brook (Ala.), respectively.

    Hendersonville, N.C's Laura Stanley of Carolina Day blew away the field with a time of 18:07, as Mt. Tabor's Carley Mathews was her nearest challenger with an 18:35 time. Watauga's Kristin Stroupe came in third (18:59), followed by T.C. Roberson's (N.C.) Jennifer Kelley (19:19) and South Gwinnett's (Ga.) Katie Almand (19:28).
