11th Ranked Georgetown Takes Pre-Meet Purple Title
The 11th ranked Hoyas of Georgetown won the Women's Purple Division Pre-Meet Title Saturday at Furman University, with a team score of 48. The Hoyas defeated 13th ranked MIchigan State, fourth-ranked Arizona State, and the top ranked Buffalos of Colorado, among others.
Georgetown placed all five runners in the top 20, including Marni Kruppa, who took fourth in 21:20. Colorado's Molly Austin won the individual title in 20:48, but the Buffalos were without two of their normal top five - Sara Gorton was out with mono and Jodie Hughes missed due to achilles tendonitis. Georgia Tech's Renee Metvier placed second in 20:59, while Lisa Aguilera of Arizona State placed third in 21:05.
Austin's time was a new record for the Furman 6K course, but stood for only one race, before being broken by the top finishers in the Silver Race.
