MT TABOR TAKES VARSITY BOYS TITLE AT FURMAN INVITATIONAL
The Mount Tabor (N.C) Boys cross country team won the Furman Invitational team title Saturday, compiling 117 points with four top 25 finishers. Mt Tabor outpaced second place Brookwood (Ga.) by 11 points and outdistanced third place Farragut (Tenn.) by 16.
The individual title was won by Lakeside High's (Ga.) Joe Thorne, who covered the 5K course in 15:15, setting a new course record. Thorne topped the previous mark of 15:25, set in 1999 by Watauga (N.C.) High's Ricky Brookshire. Second place went to Oak Mountain's (Ala.) Scott Fuqua (15:36), while Boone's (Fla.) Daniel Parker (15:37) took third.
