Furman's Crosby Runs to Third Win of the Year at Winthrip Fall Classic
Rock Hill, South Carolina -- Furman junior Kevin Crosby posted a time of 18:04.44 on the 6K course in Rock Hill, S.C., Saturday morning to claim first place at the Winthrop Cross Country Fall Classic. The Furman men's took home the team title, while the women's team secured a second place finish.
Crosby (Matthews, N.C.), a two-tome Southern Conference runner of the week in 2002, won his third race of the year by finishing 14 seconds ahead of Radford's Tim Dutton and 15 seconds better than third place Dan Barry of Winthrop. Crosby garnered first place honors earlier this season at the Pre Southern Conference Championships and The Citadel Invitational.
The Lady Paladins were paced by senior Bev Roberts' second place finish. Roberts completed the 4K course in 14:45.7, while Furman's Whitney Sharp finished ninth with a time of 15:13.59 The women's individual champion was Stephanie Vangsnes of Winthrop. Vangsnes posted a time of 14:23.19 to finish 22 seconds ahead of Roberts.
The Paladins grabbed first with 45 points, while Davidson (60) recorded a second place finish just ahead of Radford. Davidson won the women's race outdistancing Furman by five points.
Furman will compete in the Southern Conference Championships in Charleston, S.C., on November 2.
