I take photographs to capture fleeting moments and quiet glimpses. The subject matter – abstract views of cracks in walls and subtle shadows – suggests a fragile and transient quality. The shadow boxes mimic this ephemeral tone. I use screen-printing as a form of copying or appropriation, reflecting on the original photographs, and taking them somewhere new.

I start by pulling out elements of the photographs and printing them on multiple planes of glass. The original black and white images allow me to choose my own subtle colour palette. The layers of glass are separated by spacers to create depth and allow shadows to appear.

These intimate images invite a closer look. The layers push forward, recede and merge in a playful dance. The ambiguity of space challenges what is in the foreground, what is in shadow, and what is casting this shadow. My shadow box images are an introspective exploration of unique moments of beauty.
