Travel Study Program to the Eastern Mediterranean

Led by Furman faculty, this exciting travel program takes students into the heart of the Mediterranean to explore both the modern and ancient sites of the three Abrahamic religious traditions (Judaism, Christianity and Islam). The program offers a unique perspective by linking the archaeological research and discoveries to the contemporary forms of those religions. Participants visit Turkey, Greece, and Italy including sites such as the Topkapi Palace, the Ruins of Ephesus, the Acropolis, and Venice's Jewish Quarters. Students receive class credit in two courses: REL A36 Geography and Archaeology of the Biblical World and REL 95 Special Topics in Religion.

The Religion Department values the opportunity for our students to explore religion and its real world implications outside of the classroom. We, therefore, offer majors and non-majors alike the chance to travel abroad with fellow Furman faculty and students. The Religion Department currently hosts two study abroad programs: one encompasses the Eastern Mediterranean and the other focuses on Italy.
