The National Science Foundation (NSF) provides grants to universities across the country to operate Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) Sites. Furman was an REU site in biology from 1991-95, although we currently are not. All the sites will be recruiting students to spend approximately 10 weeks doing research in the summer. All offer stipends to the students; some may also pay travel expenses or room and board. Some recruit generally, while others target particular groups like minority students. Some sites center their research around particular themes (e.g. molecular biology) while others are more broadly-based.
