You may optionally read the article by Athan G. Theoharis, "Dissent and the State: Unleashing the FBI, 1917-1985" The History Teacher 24 (November 1990), pp. 41-52.


Wednesday (11/28)

Civil Rights, Student Protests, and Vietnam: An International View.
Read Guarneri, America, 263-273. Read biographies of Benjamin Mays, Thurgood Marshall, Ella Baker, Ross Barnett, and George Wallace.


Thursday (11/29)

Term Paper Presentations.
Final term papers are due at the beginning of class today.

Be prepared to give a two or three sentence summary of your paper's key research question, the most important about the topic that you discovered, and one thing you learned about historical research and historical writing as a result of this project.


Friday (11/30)

Nixon, China, and the Container Ship Revolution.
Read Guarneri, America, 281-296.
