Analyze the USMA maps of the >U.S. Plan for the 1864 Campaign and late May to early June.

Group 1's comparative book review of the Woodworth and Ayers books are due in class today. See the analytical review essay guidelines for specific requirements.


Wednesday (4/30)

To and from Atlanta with Sherman's Army.
Read the Correspondence of Hood, Sherman and the Mayor of Atlanta.
Read excerpts from Joseph Wheeler's Cavalry Report. Read the New York Tribune's report of the meeting between General Sherman and African American church leaders in Savannah, Georgia. on the Freedmen and Southern Society Project website. You may optionally readexcerpts from the Diary of Sally Burge and the Diary of Private George Hoenig (26th Wisc.).


Thursday (5/1)

From Petersburg to Appomattox.
Read Burton, Age of Lincoln, chapter eight.


Friday (5/2)

Freedoms and Surrenders.
Read Burton, Age of Lincoln, chapter ten.
