This assignment is to be done by pairs of study partners.

I. Take the following bass line and choose triads to be played above each note.

- Each triad must contain the bass note it is played with.

- Try to have a variety of root position, first inversion, and second inversion chords.

- Include at least one diminished or augmented chord.

- After you have chosen the chords, notate your chord progression as follows:
Chords in treble clef; Bass line in bass clef;
Identification of chord root, quality, and inversion under each bass note
(make sure to vertically line up each chord with its bass note).

II. Choose a meter and tempo for your piece, then play at the keyboard as follows:

- As a duet (one person play bass line, other person play chords).

- Each person play bass line (LH) and chords (RH) at the same time.

III. One person play the keyboard part (as in step II), the other person improvise a melody over it.

- You may improvise either with your voice or on an instrument.

IV. Switch parts and repeat step III.

Be prepared to perform your piece for the class on Friday, 12/5.
If you will be improvising on an instrument, please bring the instrument to class.
