To complete this assignment you will need:
1. A 30-second Audioshop file of yourself speaking your chosen text (which you will record in the Seminar Room).
2. A 30-second Audioshop file of a musical excerpt (which you will capture off a CD -- see Instructions below).
NOTE: BEFORE YOU DO ANY EDITING,
MAKE A BACKUP COPY OF YOUR SOURCE FILES!!
(Use Save Track As... in Audioshop)
1. Edit together a new piece (16 bit/44.1 kHz/Stereo) combining sounds from your two source files. Use at least one example of each of the following DSP techniques: amplitude envelope modification, pitch bend, echo, time reversal. Your piece will be evaluated on how artistically you combine the source materials and use the DSP techniques.
2. Create an Audioshop Playlist entitled yourname.A2. Set up the playlist to play, in this order:
1. your spoken text
2. your CD excerpt
3. your combined piece
========================================
To capture an excerpt off a CD:
0. Decide on an excerpt; write down the track number and approximate start/end times.
1. Launch Audioshop.
2. Insert CD in CD-ROM drive. (Audioshop may ask you to name the CD.)
3. Using the Down/Up buttons on the Audioshop player, locate the track you wish to excerpt from. From the playlist, Delete all tracks EXCEPT the one you wish to excerpt from.
4. Select the track, then click Edit. Adjust the Start and End times to find a 30-second excerpt you like (audition your excerpt to be sure). Write down these times. Click OK.
5. With the track selected, choose File>Save Track As...
6. Click the Options... button.
7. Set the Settings to 16 bit/44.1 kHz/Stereo ("CD-quality" sound). Enter your Start and Stop times. [You can audition your excerpt, but the playback might be jittery.] Click OK.
8. Name your excerpt and Save it to your User Files folder. It may take a few moments to save. Delete your track from the playlist. Drag the CD icon to the trash to eject it.
9. Add your excerpt to the playlist. Open it in the Editing window and listen to it.
