Each student is required to choose and work with a study partner from
his/her section. If a student fails to choose a partner, one will be assigned
to him/her. Partners are expected to meet at least twice a week (non-consecutive
days) for the purpose of aural skills and keyboard drill. [Extra credit
will be awarded to those who meet more frequently, not longer.] Partners
will also be responsible for sight singing together in class and for performing
keyboard and harmonic skills as a team.
Grades are based on 50% skills (singing, rhythm, dictation, keyboard,
improvisation) and 50% written work (rudiments, analysis, part-writing).
Sight singing and rhythm execution/conducting will be evaluated in class
at random intervals. Likewise, keyboard and harmonic skills (occasionally
involving improvisation) will also be tested in class, usually on Fridays.
Dictation assignments will be collected at random intervals. All written
assignments are due at the beginning of the class period for which they
are assigned. Late assignments will be assessed a 50% penalty. The final
examination will be given on the date and at the time specified in the class
schedule.
Academic dishonesty will result in a course grade of F.
Each student is allotted one (1) unexcused absence during the course
of the term. No exam, test, dictation, assignment, etc. may be made up without
written excuse.
