For this assignment you (and a partner if you choose to do this with technology) are to create an ABC picture book that would teach young children about important concepts from an event/period/ or theme in American (or South Carolina) History. You will need to choose one concept from each letter of the alphabet—that means 26 concepts. Each concept should start with a particular letter of the alphabet (i.e. A is for Abraham Lincoln) except for those that are difficult to find concepts that begin with that letter. (Q, X, Z)

For each page, please include:

• the key concept/ name somewhere in the page.
• a visual in the middle of the page
• a brief description of the concept so that young children might understand it better

You can put your book together in one of two ways:

1.using some sort of technology presentational tool (Book Creator, PowerPoint, Prezi, iMovie, etc.)

OR

2. in a book in a traditional manner (at least 6 of the pictures must be hand-drawn)

After you have completed your book, please write a 2-3 page description of what you have learned about social studies (history) content in this process.

Included in this description should be an account of what sources you used/ consulted in making your book.

• You may want to include a separate sheet of references with your book as well.
• If you work with a partner, the reflection should still be individual and based on YOUR contribution to the project

Both the book AND the reflection are due at the beginning of class on September 24. We will share work on this day.

***I would like you to pick a period/ place in history that you are NOT familiar with. Part of this assignment is to help you in dealing with unfamiliar content areas.***

You will be graded on the following:

Scoring Guide:

• (20) Completed Assignment Following Directions (26 pages, single time period, etc.)
• (20) Included Accurate Account of concepts, visuals and descriptions are time appropriate
• (20) Technology appropriate, enhances content, is operational during class presentation
• OR- Book is neatly assembled, drawings present, A-Z in order, etc.
• (20) Language, spelling, grammar—accurate and appropriate for young children
• (20) Reflection- on experience AND content

By Thursday Sept. 12, please let me know a topic. Start now (don't try to put this together at the last minute)
