Follow Poinsett Highway which will turn into Rutherford and Cuncombe Street. Turn right onto Church Street.Take Church past two traffic lights. Cross the bridge and take the first "off" ramp at the Camperdown exit. At the top of the ramp, turn left. The school district office on the left.

Tips for Tutoring (Adapted from: Rodgers, Nia. (1997) Role Modeling, Mentoring and Tutoring)

* Set goals so the two of you have something to work towards; a reason for being there.

* Establish a routine for the tutoring session. This will save time and establish a feeling of consistency.

* Patience!! Progress can be slow but repetition is necessary they might need to refine basic skills. Without the repetition they will forget those skills very quickly.

* Vary your approach. Do some outside research on the subject.

* Have the students alternate reading out-loud and silently.

* Let them work by themselves for a few minutes and volunteering information only when they get stuck, ask for help, or are off task.

* Draw pictures of everything, especially math.

* Try to incorporate references the student will be familiar with. A child growing up in a small apartment in an urban area will find it difficult to understand what a farm looks like. A child growing up on a farm will find it difficult to understand how living in an apartment is different than a farmhouse.

* Make up games that involve the material.

* Bring in outside materials.

* Try to keep antsy children moving. Let them get up to look at a map or look up a word.

* Be flexible.

* Be aware of their feelings and limits. Don't push too hard. The student may be having a bad day and talking with the student is going to be more important than learning a piece of content.

* BE POSITIVE!

At gate on back campus at Timmons Arena, take right on Duncan Chapel Road. Go short distance and take left at Court Ridge Apartments and go until the road deadends into White Horse Road. Take a left - go 0.5 mile and bear left on Hunt's Bridge Road at the Shell Station. Follow this road (it will become Parker Road when crosses HWY 183) for about 3.9 miles. Turn right on Woodside Avenue. Go to next traffic light and take a left onto Bramlett Streeet. School is on the right but park in the faculty parking lot on the left.

1: Start out going Southeast on POINSETT HWY/US-276 E/US-25 BR S toward US-276W/US-25 BR N.

2: Turn LEFT onto STATE PARK RD/SC-253 W.

3: Stay straight to go onto N PLEASANTBURG DR/SC-291 S. Continue to follow N PLEASANTBURG DR.

4: Turn RIGHT onto N PLEASANTBURG DR/SC-291 S.

5: Turn LEFT onto MAULDIN RD.

6: Turn LEFT onto CAVALIER DR.

take Laurens Road. After the motor mile and the I-85 underpass, make the first right onto Fairforest Road. Follow Fairforest (past the turnoff for Christ Church Middle School) for 1.4 miles. Turn right on Cavalier Drive. The entrance is .1 mi. on your right.

to Travelers Rest HS:

1: Start out going South on POINSETT HWY/US-276 E/US-25 BR S toward US-276/US-25 BR.

2: Turn SHARP LEFT onto POINSETT HWY/US-276 W/US-25 BR N. Continue to follow US-276 W.

3: Turn SHARP LEFT onto OLD BUNCOMBE RD.

4: Turn RIGHT onto WILHELM WINTER ST.
School is on the left. Parking??

Leave Furman by the front gate and go toward Travelers Rest. Take Hwy 276 and go under the underpass. Approximately 0.3 miles after underpass, take left between gas station and the car dealer. Cross railroad tracks - the road will dead end. Take a right - then a left on Wilhelm Winter Street. School is on the left.

1: Start out going South on POINSETT HWY/US-276 E/US-25 BR S toward US-276 W/US-25 BR N.

2: Take the ramp toward OLD BUNCOMBE ROAD.

4: Turn SLIGHT RIGHT onto OLD BUNCOMBE RD.

5: Turn LEFT onto N FRANKLIN RD.
