NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF BAPTIST PROFESSORS OF RELIGION

Article I. Name

The name of this association shall be the National Association of the Baptist Professors of Religion, Southeastern Region.

Article II. Purposes

The purposes of the regional association shall be (1) the consideration of literature, movements, and ideas developing in the field of religion, (2) the promotion of quality teaching in the field of religion, (3) the development of cooperation among members from various schools, and (4) the promotion of fellowship among teachers of religion.

Article III. Membership

Section A. Voting Membership. All teachers and retired teachers of subjects in the field of religion in accredited colleges, universities, divinity schools, or seminaries shall be recognized as eligible for membership in the regional association.

Section B. Non-Voting Membership.

1)Associate membership shall be available to interested persons who are not eligible for regular membership. Associate members may include persons with administrative appointments at colleges, universities, seminaries, or divinity schools, persons involved in parish ministry, or other interested persons.

(2)Student membership shall be available to interested persons who are enrolled in any accredited college, university, seminary or divinity school.

Section C. Membership in the regional association may be obtained by any eligible person who pays annual dues and is welcomed by the national association during its annual meeting. Annual dues are set by the national association in annual session and are due on January 1 each year. Dues may be paid through the regional secretary or directly to the national office.

Section D. Members, Associate Members, and Student Members of the national association automatically are affiliated with the regional association.

Article IV. Officers and Committees

Section A. The officers of the regional association shall be a president, a vice-president, and a secretary-treasurer. Their duties shall be as follows:

The President shall designate a suitable venue for the annual meeting and secure cooperation from the local hosts. The President shall preside over the annual meeting and deliver an annual Presidential Address. The term of office for the President is one year.

The Vice-President shall be responsible for planning and coordinating the program at the annual meeting. The term of office for the Vice President is one year. Traditionally, the Vice-President becomes President of the regional association for the next year, but this is not a binding obligation.

The Secretary-Treasurer shall (1)be responsible for coordinating the logistics of the annual meeting, (2) serve as the regional association's representative on the Executive Committee of the national body, and (3)be responsible for the membership records and the funds of the regional association. The term of office for the Secretary-Treasurer is five years.

Other duties may be designated to the officers by the regional association.

Section B. The executive committee shall be composed of the officers of the regional association and shall be responsible for the ad interim operation of the regional association.

Section C. Special committees may be designated according to the need and program of the regional association. All such committees shall be appointed by the president.

Article V. Meetings

Meetings of the regional association shall be held annually at a time and place designated by the regional association in its annual meeting. Arrangements for the meeting shall be the responsibility of the executive committee.

Article VI. Constitutional Changes

Alterations or amendments to this constitution may be made at any annual meeting of the regional association upon two-thirds vote of members present provided that the change has been given a first reading at a previous annual meeting.
