MISSION STATEMENT

This is an online forum designed to promote open, civil, and informed discussion about Furman University’s alcohol policy. Its purpose is not to endorse a single position on this issue, but rather to encourage student, faculty, and staff participation in this forum.

    ISSUE SUMMARY

Currently Furman prohibits all alcohol possession on campus except for specially sanctioned university events. However, various universities in the U.S. allow alcohol possession on campus for students of legal age. Alcohol possession is a controversial topic on college campuses, and is especially of interest to Furman students because of the university’s four year on-campus housing requirement.

With these issues in mind, should Furman remain a dry campus?

Is Furman's alcohol policy effective?
