Spanish

1. Vocabulary Passing. Students are in groups of 2 – 4 players. When a student bounce passes the ball to another student, the student must say a word in Spanish. The person receiving the ball must give the English equivalent. Use a variety of passes and locomotor movements. Limit the words to colors, numbers, etc.

2. 4 Corners in Spanish. Divide class into four groups in each corner of the room. Caller closes eyes and players move to a different corner. Caller calls out corner in Spanish. Uno, dos, tres, cuatro.

3. Hokey Pokey in Spanish. Mano – hand; brato – arm; pie – foot; pierna – leg; cabeza – head.

4. “Categories” in Spanish. Play four square. Then each time the player moves the ball, call out a Spanish word. The following player must define the word or call out their own Spanish word.

5. Throw beach ball around a small circle. If you catch the ball you must name a color in Spanish. Azul – blue; rojo – red; Amarillo – yellow; verde – green; negro – black; blanco – white. Add locomotors.

Speech Communication and Other Languages
These activities are general; they may be used to reinforce almost any movement.

1. Vocabulary – act out and way the word.

2. Direction vocabulary – move in the direction stated with different locomotors.

3. Count in a different language; children move to the number of counts.

4. Make the shape that is stated, using a language other than English.

5. Vary the space and effort elements as directed.

6. Poise – self confidence exercise.

7. Compliment each other on walking. Practice peer encouragement.

8. Investigate automatic behaviors.

9. Non-verbal (imitate an animal).

10. Game – put letters on the floor, say a sound, children must run to the letter that makes that sound.

11. Movement expressing emotions (i.e., anger may equal running; happy may equal skipping, etc.).

12. Chants such as “Jack(ie) Be Quick.”

13. Make up chants to a pattern of movements (fitness homework).

14. Walk blindfolded partner through a safe obstacle course.

15. Any small group work requires speech communication skills.
