Biochemistry and Mode of Action of Hormones

Goals and Objectives:

  1. Be able to describe the sequence of events initiated by hormones in a plant response.
  2. Be able to describe how hormone-binding proteins, second messengers, and altered gene action are involved with hormone action in plants.
  3. For each of the five major plant hormones, be able to describe how their biosynthesis, transport, and metabolism help in the regulation of the hormone action.
  4. Be able to describe how auxin causes cell expansion.
  5. Be able to describe how gibberellin controls stem elongation.
  6. Be able to describe how gibberellin controls seed germination.
