• When Km is LARGE

  • Reaction rate at low substrate concentration is relatively low (weak binding of substrate)
  • Importance:
    • Liver Hexokinase
    • Km = 2 mM
    • Affected by low amounts of substrate

• When Km is SMALL

  • Reaction rate at low substrate concentration is relatively high (strong binding of substrate)
  • Importance:
    • Brain Hexokinase
    • Km = 0.05
    • Not affected by low amounts of substrate
