• fibroin: fibrous protein

• sericin: amorphous protein that cements the fibroin fibers together

• Antiparallel ? pleated sheet: chains extend parallel to the fiber axis.

  • 6 residue repeat (Gly-Ser-Gly-Ala-Gly-Ala)n
  • Gly on one surface, Ser and on the other

• Regions of bulky residues (Tyr, Val, Arg, Asp) occur
