This
website has information concerning recommended course schedules, listings
of professional schools, and suggested steps students should take to facilitate
appropriate preparation for a career in a health profession. This
website corresponds to, but is not identical to the Furman Health Career
Planning Guide mentioned in the Furman Catalogue. In order to better help
students prepare for a health career it is desirable that Furman students
sign up in the Health Careers Registry. This can be done at any time in
the office of the Chief Health Professions Advisor (Dr.
Laura Thompson -- PH 224). Students so registered will receive the
information they need about programs of interest to them. In addition the
Chief Health Professions Advisor is available to help you (1) evaluate
your situation, (2) plan your curriculum, (3) recommend appropriate experiences
such as Independent Study internships, (4) suggest alternative careers
in health, (5) put you in contact with health professionals who can give
additional assistance, etc. The earlier you get started planning your program
the better your undergraduate experience will be. This is especially true
for students whose selection of career may suggest transferring to a professional
school after two years at Furman.
