*These examples can apply not only to
most medical schools, but also to schools of osteopathy, podiatry,
dentistry and optometry.
*Comments on the 3 + 1 accelerated undergraduate premedical curriculum.
A very demanding curriculum that could lead to
discouragement and failure.
It provides very little time for
extracurricular activities and enrichment.
Very few medical schools accept students with
only 3 years of college.
It works best for students with SATs above 1400
and considerable AP credit in science & math.
*Try to complete CHM 11,12,21,22, BGY 11,30, and PHY 11& 12 before you take the MCAT
near the end of your
Junior year.
*ENG 11 should be taken in the first year of college.
*For some premedical students it is not best to take foreign language in the freshman
year, but there are
trade-offs.
*MTH 12 may be needed by some premedical students and not by others.
Manditory for students planning on applying to
medical schools like Duke that require 2 calculus courses.
Manditory for students majoring in Chemistry,
Math or Physics.
Recommended but not required to take Physics 12
(calculus based Physics).
For some premedical students needing more than
4 sem.hours of Math, Mth 30 (Statistics) is a viable option.
For some premedical students needing more than
4 sem.hours of Math, Mth 30 (Statistics) is a viable option.
*Do not use your three Pass/Fail options your general education requirements, your major,
and your med school
prerequisites.
*Abbreviations: AED (Premedical Honor Society), CESC (Collegiate Educational Service
Corps-volunteer work),
MCAT (Medical College Admissions Test).
