Personal Comments Essay

AAMCAS, AADSAS etc. applications as well as application forms from professional schools require that you write an assay about yourself. Take great care in doing this. Consider the following suggestions:

  1. Explain the reasons for your interest in the field you wish to enter.
  2. Substantiate your relevant characteristics which you feel will help you do well in your chosen field. You may cite experiences, interactions with people, decisions, philosophy, schedules, and use of time among others.
  3. Comment on any aspect of your record (grades, summer school, underloading, aptitude test performance) which may need clarification.
  4. Discuss the benefits you derived from participation in such activities as undergraduate research, CESC, summer job, internships, etc.
  5. Be sure your grammar and spelling are correct and that you will be able to fit your comments into the space provided.
  6. You are encouraged to let the chief health professions advisor review your essay before putting it into your application.If not instructed to the contrary, type your essay unless you are a very neat printer or penman. However, in some cases your are required to write the essay in longhand.
