Meredith R. Sargent
Spanish Teacher

I am Mrs. Meredith Sargent, the Spanish teacher for Landrum High School. I began teaching here in August, 1991 and have been thoroughly happy throughout my stay here. I began my study of Spanish at Ben Lippen School, a boarding school for grades 9-12 located at the time in Asheville, North Carolina. The population of my school was about 20% Hispanic; so I had plenty of opportunity to practice in real life what I was learning in the classroom. After high school, I spent a month living with a family in Cancun, Mexico. On returning I worked with some migrant workers trying to help them learn English. By the time I began at Furman University, I had decided that I wanted to be a Spanish teacher. I majored in Spanish and spent a semester in Spain as part of my course work. Since graduation I have taken four trips to the Dominican Republic as a translator for youth mission trips. I have also begun my master’s degree in teaching Spanish at Furman.
