I'm currently in New Mexico for the summer, working on two research projects, two manuscripts, and a book. Not only does that sound like a lot, it's probably too much. My two current research projects are: (1) the roosting ecology of bats, particularly the southwestern myotis Myotis auriculus. This work is being conducted on the Kirtland Airforce Base in Albuquerque; and, (2) multiple aspects of cougar (puma or mountain lion) biology. Most of our cougar research is taking place on the Ladder Ranch in southcentral New Mexico. Graduate student Megan Pitman and I maintain a public access blog for real-time research results, including photos from remote cameras and maps of collared cougar locations.
When you bother to read the news, shouldn't you carry the intellectual tools to evaluate it? Just a thought.
. . . It was imagination that discovered the four cardinal directions and that has discovered the intermediate causes of things, but imagination has never been able to rest its hands in the burning embers, without logic or sense, where one finds free, unrestrained inspiration.
