Butterflies and Moths of Southern Vancouver Island--Jeremy B. Tatum

Hydria undulata

Scallop Shell

The caterpillar can be found in August hidden in a little nest of leaves at the tip of a twig of Hardhack Spiraea douglasii. The scallopshell pattern of the wings of the adult moth is unmistakable. The species occurs in Europe as well as in North America.
