H.E.S. 10 FINAL EXAM STUDY GUIDE

MATERIAL COVERED:

The final exam is worth 300 Points (30% of your final grade).  The first part of the exam will essentially be a third test that will cover all material since Test #2 worth a total of 200 points. The second part of the exam will be comprised of questions from selected old material plus Tuesdays With Morrie and The Five People You Meet in Heaven for a total of an additional 100 points.  The new material includes Chapters 10, 11, 12, 13, and  14 along with all of the corresponding notes and Web Readings 7, 8, 9, 10, and 11.  These notes and chapters deal with the topics of Stress, Diseases, Drugs, and STDs.

SECTION ONE - 15 MULTIPLE CHOICE AT 4 EACH (60 TOTAL POINTS):

Answer each question COMPLETELY.  Make sure that you read the entire question to address all areas.  You do not have to use complete sentences.

2. Explain how and when a person can be tested for HIV and AIDS, and name 3 ways to prevent becmong infected with HIV

SA #1 - Coping is the process of understanding the stress response, recognizing personal stressors, and incorporating stress management techniques into one's lifestyle. Examples of stress management techniques include deep breating, meditation, progressive relaxation, exercise, cognitive strategies, etc. You would need to explain whatever techniques you select.

SA #2 - currently, a person cannot test for HIV until at least 3 months after the potential infection time - it is done via a blood test to confirm the presence of HIV antibodies in the bloodstream - it usually take two positive tests to confirm diagnosis - AIDS will not occur until sometime later after being infected with HIV (2-15 years sometimes) - AIDS is characterized by having a T-Cell count under 200 and the presence of an opportunistic infection such as PCP, KS, or Tb

If you choose to write the essay question, you will be asked to write a reflective essay to discuss at least two of the major topics that Mitch and Morrie discussed with respect to one or more of the wellness dimensions.

SECTION THREE - 10 MULTIPLE CHOICE QUESTIONS on FITT & ACSM Weight Loss (2 Points Each - 20 POINTS)

You will be asked to respond to questions concerning the program design for cardiovascular, weight training, and flexibility.  You will need to be familiar with the FITT guidelines for each of these fitness areas as well as examples of ways in which these areas can be improved in a fitness center. You are also responsible for knowing the 5 ACSM guidelines for weight loss.

PLEASE NOTE:

1.  We will continue to observe all test-taking procedures for this exam as for Tests 1 & 2 as described on the syllabus - You MAY NOT  leave the room except in between Part One and Part Two.  A short restroom break will be provided if needed as these portions of the exam will be distributed separately.
2. We may be sharing the room with the HES 10 class that alternates days with us during the term.  You will be asked to seat yourself in a pattern agreed to by both professors administering the exams.
3. The exam is scheduled for MONDAY, DECEMBER 10 from 2:30 - 5:00 PM.
