Monday night studio classes are for testing your memorization and bringing a higher level of technique and interpretation to your performances.
Stages of memorization:
Off the book (music) but needs cues to keep the flow of the music.

Off the book, (music) but has a few wrong pitches and/or rhythms to be corrected.

Off the book, (music) but with a few minor slips.

Off the book (music) and solid; nearby exploding fireworks do not affect memory.

Off the book (music) and able to bring performance to a high artistic level. Incorporates improved vocal technique and personal interpretation.

Criteria for grading
To receive an A:
Attended all lessons. Student learned and memorized more than the minimum repertoire requirement. Singer was able to bring performance of this repertoire to a high artistic level. Singer was able to incorporate improved technique and personal interpretation into each piece. Singer sang all repertoire with appropriate style according to composer and era in which it was written.

Increased technical facility was in evidence during the term.

Singer quickly corrected mistakes in music and text.

An A-minus will indicate that one of the above areas needed some improvement.

The grade of "B plus" will indicate that more than one of the above areas needed improvement.

To receive a B:
Attended all lessons.

Assigned repertoire was solid in memorization. Singer demonstrated some improvement in tone quality and/or appropriate interpretation.

Minimum repertoire requirement was learned.

Technical facility was increased, but was not consistent.

The grade of "B minus" will indicate a need for improvement in the above areas.

The grade of "C plus" will indicate a need for significant improvement in the above areas.

To receive a C:
Attended all lessons.

Student does not consistently observe tempo markings. Student does not consistently read correct rhythms and/or pitches.

Student relies entirely on teacher to teach the music during the lessons.

Repertoire requirement was not met, but some improvement was evident in technical ease and solid memory work.

A grade of "C minus" indicates that the above areas needed even more improvement.

To receive a D:
One song is memorized. Others are in the early stages of preparation.

All lessons were not attended.

To receive an F:
None of the above criteria were met.
