BIO 075: Seminar - Spring 2015

Seminar Committee (2014-2015):

Dr. MK. Liao (Professor of Record, BIO 075-01, Tues, 11:30-12:45)
Dr. W. Worthen(Professor of Record, BIO 075-02, Thurs. 11:30-12:45)

Dr. J. Quinn (Professor of Record, Fall 2014)

Requirements:

1) Each student must attend 11 seminars. You may attend seminars on tuesdays or thursdays. There will also be several guest speakers this term, and attending these seminars will count towards your attendance requirement. Please spread your attendances out over the term; it would be nice if all students had a reasonably sized audience - not just those going early or late in the term. You do not need to attend all the seminars on a given date; you may come and go between seminars. HOWEVER, DO NOT ENTER THE ROOM IF THE DOOR IS CLOSED. Interrupting a speaker by coming late or leaving early is rude and will disqualify that attendance. Speakers are already a little nervous and they don't need to be rattled and lose their train of though by someone knocking at the door or rushing in or out.

2) Each student is required to give a seminar, 15 minutes in length, that meets our departmental expectations of professionalism and content. Each student is also required to give a practice seminar to their 075 professor (either Liao or Worthen) at least 48 hrs before their presentation to the class. We recommend that your 502 or 503 professor also be in attendance at this practice seminar. Scheduling your practice seminar IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY. Contact Worthen or Liao, and your 502/503 supervisor, two weeks before your seminar to schedule the practice. The practice is NO JOKE. In all honesty, most practice seminars would barely earn a passing grade; the purpose is to HELP YOU IMPROVE the seminar before you embarrass yourself in front of your peers and professors. This is NOT optional, and you will not be allowed to present until a practice is given.

3) Each student is required to ask an intelligent question of a speaker at some point during the term.

4) Each student is required to submit a CV for review.
