COURSE OVERVIEW

Biology is the scientific study of living systems. In BIO111: Foundations of Biology, you will be introduced to the unifying concepts of biology. This course is truly a foundation meant for science majors or students planning to pursue a profession in health or science. We assume that you will be taking additional courses in Biology, so this course is not meant to be a complete overview of Biology. In fact, that would be impossible. Biology is one of the most rapidly growing disciplines. From molecular genetics to the effects of species diversity on ecosystem function, each week brings new discoveries and a new understanding of how biological systems work. As such, although you must master the facts and theories presented in this course, a more important lesson will be learning to think like a biologist.

Our text for this course is the 8th edition of Biology by Campbell, et al. There is also a Lab Manual for the course. These should be purchased as soon as possible at the University Store. Please review the Syllabus, and Attendance and Grading Policy
