 Brown-headed Cowbird
   Molothrus ater

Status:

Uncommon

 SP, S, F, W

Brown-headed Cowbirds are present year-round on campus. They share similar habitat tastes with European Starlings, sticking mostly to grassy areas to feed. Brown-headed Cowbirds are nest parasites; they lay an egg in another species' nest. The host parents will feed and raise the cowbird chick as their own. Brown-headed Cowbird chicks are often much larger than their nestmates, and they often push the nestmates from the nest and receive all the food brought by the parents.
