Home Checklist Back Yellow-bellied Sapsucker Sphyrapicus varius Status: Common W The squawking call of the Yellow-bellied Sapsucker is a common addition to the background noise of campus life in the winter months. These birds will leave in Spring to nest in the higher latitudes of the East coast. Note the two rows of small holes towards the top of the tree in the picture at left.
