  • 3’ to 5’ exonuclease activity
  • adds nucleotide to growing strand only if previous nucleotide is properly base-paired.
    • stalls until mismatch is repaired
    • 3’-5’ exonuclease + DNA Pol III holoenzyme

• RNA primers and proofreading

  • more errors in creation, not proofread
  • guarantees they will be recognized, removed, & replaced with DNA
